A little home improvement

So, we recently (okay, a few months ago) had a small problem of a busted pipe in a wall.  The result; a moldy closet that needed cleaning out.  WP_000250And I do mean cleaning.

So, we had a company come in and help us clean the closet.  Okay, they actually did all the cleaning, I just mainly let them in the house and watched while they worked.

Once the wall was done and the crawlspace was clean (stang, no pictures), it was time to finally put the wall back up.  My brother in Christ Kevin Naas came over after helping me get the drywall boards from Lowe’s.

WP_000355That’s Kevin in the side of the picture, and that’s the first board to be going into place.  Measure, cut, re-measure because the studs aren’t exactly right (okay, they’re way wrong!) and soon the closet looked like this.                                       WP_000356

A little bit of taping……  WP_000357

WP_000359followed by some mudding,

and the closet looks pretty done.  Well, sorta.  That was day one.  Day two included mounting our new pantry shelves.  After dusting myself by sanding down the mud in a confined space (note to self, mud dust will tend to float into the office and coat EVERYTHING), it was time to mount the rails.

Then the shelves….  WP_000368

WP_000369I discovered that it was a lot easier to put the support arms on the shelves on the floor, then mount the whole thing.  Eventually, it the closet looks like this; WP_000370

Project, done.

Home Improvement

Well, the latest portion of our home improvement is completed.

What was the last portion?  I guess I forgot to update you on that one.  We had a busted showerhead pipe that ruined part of a wall in a closet.  Of course, we didn’t’ figurer that out until we had the drywall removed and finally found the source of the leak.

So, we’ve had a ruined wall torn out, a busted pipe joint replaced and repaired (two days of no showers wasn’t a lot of fun), and we’ve had the crawlspace cleaned of debris, some mold removed and treated for, and a vapor barrier put down.

Now to fix a ceiling.

A Return to Reality

Danielle and I are back from our honeymoon.  We had a very relaxing week in Florida; weather was perfect, no rain, excellent temperatures.  Got a lot of good food (okay, probably too much good food), got see see a lot of beautiful places, even got time to visit with some family that wasn’t able to make it to the wedding.

The house was great, although there was a minor issue with the pool when we got there.  But it was really minor, so nothing to complain about.  Spent time on the beach, got to see a few sharks (even got to touch one that someone had hauled onshore then returned to the waters).

And now we’re back in town.  Got Dani’s information changed over yesterday so that she’s officially Danielle Rub!!!  (I love my wife, in case I hadn’t mentioned that before.)  Just one last thing to do today.  And lots of cleaning at the house.

Tomorrow, we go back to the reality of our normal work schedules.  In a way, I’m looking forward to it, and in a way, I’m not.  this honeymoon vacation has been too nice. I feel more relaxed now than I have in a very long time.  Hope this state doesn’t disappear too quickly once we return to “reality”.

Final Countdown

It’s Sunday, which means in just over 24 hours, I’ll be getting married to the most amazing woman I know.  Everything is in order, no changing anything now.  Rehearsal tonight, rehearsal dinner this evening, marriage tomorrow.

6…..

Wow, last night was a busy one for us.  Moved even more of Danielle’s stuff from her parent’s house to ours.  Amazingly, this woman certainly knows how to organize.  Despite bringing over tons of stuff into the very limited space of this house, she’s managed to put nearly everything away so that it doesn’t look like much has been added!

Is it bad to admit that I’m starting to suffer “weddinitis”?  Think senioritis when you were in high school, only about 10 times worse.  And it’s not cold feet, nervousness, jitters or anything negative.  It’s that I’m so looking forward to the wedding and the honeymoon that I am noticing a small amount (small?) of loss of focus for my clients.

I really am working hard to provide the best possible customer support during this week, but I also find it easy for me to be distracted.  All I can say is, come on 4:30 Friday afternoon!!!!

7 (no, not the deadly sins)

Well, we are now 7 days away from becoming a happily married couple.  It feels a bit surreal, knowing that in a few days we’ll be living together and doing all the things we’ve seen all our married friends doing for so long.

But I love Danielle, so I can’t complain.  Smile  Why would I want to?

We spent this weekend finalizing some things.  Our music for the service is on CD, we’ve selected what scripture we want read and included in the ceremony, and completed some last minute shopping for a few things we need for the house.

Tonight is more packing of her stuff and getting it to the house.  We’re getting closer.

Okay, so still not sure!!!

We’re so close to finalizing our wedding plans.  Hope to have something definative posted by the end of the week.

We’re also posting updates at The Knot.  I’ll toss that site address on here a little later.

Finalized?

Well, it looks like we’ve finalized a date.

I’ll post once more after we have a meeting, but instead of November, we’re looking at having our ceremony this September.  We’ve moved our venue as well.  As much as we’d love to get married at church, we’ve got a good deal on an outdoor venue, a meal for our guests, and a complimentary room for the bride and groom.

And it’s nearby in New Harmony (gee, can you guess where it’s at?  Two letter hint, R and G).  We just have one minor hangup.  Everyone in the wedding party has said the potential weekend works for them except one.  We’re still working on that.  Praying God let’s things work out so that they can be there.

Oddly enough, due to the venue change, we’re having to cut our invitation list in half from what it originally was.  Our invitation list is now down to family.  Not that this is a problem, it’ll make the ceremony more intimate.  Dani wants a small wedding anyway, so this is more in line with what she wanted.  I just love the idea of having a lot of people that mean a lot to me around, since I have such a small family right now.

But as Dani’s mom pointed out, I”m marrying into theirs, so their large family will soon be my large family as well.  🙂

Anwyay, 3 months away and we’re hitched!!!!!
